Marketing exec Mandy is always in control. Her internal director keeps her mind constantly on task — even when that task is pleasure. It hounds her to angle her body a specific way, to suck in her tummy, to imagine how her husband Daniel might want her to look. It's no surprise that she fantasizes about losing control, to quiet that voice and just feel. Daniel makes her wish come true with a weekend visit to an adults-only resort where she can hopefully let go of thinking and focus on feeling. It's not going to be easy, but luckily there's a whole playground filled with men eager to take on the challenge. I love all of Lacey's books, from the characters to the “action” scenes, but this one resonated with me. I could really relate to Mandy's struggle to get her brain to shut the heck up. My inner narrator is forever yapping and telling me what to do (though I don't mind when it tells me to go read Lacey's latest work). My brain very much loves to torture me with “what am I forgetting?” thoughts (spoiler alert: Nothing. The answer is nothing). All that to say I identified with Mandy's urge to just let go and was cheering her on to find that mindless bliss. And of course she did, because Lacey always gives us a happy ending 😉. Let's see who checks into the resort next!
Happy Friday! It's been a long week for me, and I'm not really sure why, and I'm looking forward to spending some time with my extended family on Sunday (and of course, the tasty food). I took a bit of a mental break this week from writing, but I needed it. I hope you find some time to relax this weekend if you've had a busy week like me.
